Joleen Gottwald, WELL AP, RID, NCIDQ

Joleen is a seasoned designer with the rare-to-the-region and added bonus of being WELL AP certified, and we are so happy to have convinced her to join our flock. She has enjoyed 35 years in the industry with the last 15 spent at one of the largest architecture firms in the region. Prior to that her career included several roles in the commercial furniture industry. She’s got it all—design and furniture knowledge! You are probably familiar with some her landmark projects: Ash Brokerage, Franklin Electric, The Clyde, several projects at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, Black Canyon, Eddie Merlots (including a location in Boston!). Joleen brings to our team extensive high-end residential experience so don’t forget about Blackbird Design Resources for your residential needs.

In addition to Joleen’s design talents she’s quite the skilled golfer placing well at local, state, and national tournaments. And by well, we are talking anywhere from first to fifth place. If you need a ringer to round out your foursome for a charity scramble she would love to have a few hours out of the office to represent Blackbird Design and join you.

You might like to know her blood runs thick with native Fort Waynian blood—with some black and gold from her time as a panther at Snider High School (ruling the golf course back then, too).

We call Joleen a Senior Designer on her business card, but if there was room we’d call her “wonderful, talented, highly-experienced, positive, fun, centipede slayer”. That last part was earned about thirty minutes before this entry as the office was invaded by the quickest, creepiest centipede that ever lived. Our souls are still in tact. Thanks, Joleen!

Have you heard the rumors about Joleen?

“The planning, execution and level of detail that Joleen brought to our project was sensational. She brought the space to life with the perfect balance of explosive color and professional restraint. Years later, the only reaction from people who enter our office is ‘wow’ — and we owe that to Joleen’s vision and implementation.”

-Tim Ash, CEO, ASH Brokerage

“I have worked with Joleen for over 15 years on numerous Memorial Coliseum projects.  From renovations to the Exposition Center, the Arena suite and club seating level and Century Club Room to the design and construction of the Arena Food Courts and Conference Center.

Her creativity, professionalism, and problem solving has significantly contributed by bringing these projects in on time and on budget.

The design sophistication that Joleen brings to a project has been instrumental in making the Coliseum the award-winning venue that it is today.”
